Italy’s wine export sales fell to €2.34bn in January-April, pressured by US tariffs and weaker demand in key European markets.
Italy’s wine exports declined 6.8% year-on-year to €2.34bn in the first four months of 2026, as volumes dropped 3.7% to 641 million litres. The downturn reflects broader contraction in global wine trade, with US tariffs and softer demand in Germany and the UK weighing on sales.
In 2025, Italy’s wine exports fell 3.7% to €7.78bn, with volumes down 1.9%. The US, Germany, and the UK—Italy’s top three markets—saw declines of over 15%, 6%, and 6%, respectively, in the first four months of 2026. Sales to Canada remained flat, while Switzerland dropped 12%.
Bright spots included Brazil and China, with exports rising 17.8% and 9.7%, respectively. Industry leaders called for expanded efforts in emerging markets and reduced production to stabilize trade.
