Indian powerloom sector teams with AWARE to comply with EU digital product passport regulations for textile exports.
India’s Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) has partnered with Amsterdam-based data firm AWARE to help domestic textile producers meet upcoming EU traceability requirements. The collaboration aims to implement digital product passports (DPP) under the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, which will mandate detailed documentation for textile exports, including material origin and production history.
The agreement, formalized at Bharat Tex 2026 in New Delhi, addresses growing demand for verifiable supply chain data from global buyers. Indian powerloom operators, often early-stage suppliers, will use blockchain-based tokenization to create unique, tamper-proof records for each production batch, ensuring compliance while maintaining data ownership.
PDEXCIL Chairman K. Sakthivel stated the initiative will enhance competitiveness by aligning Indian producers with international standards. The EU’s DPP rules are expected to reshape textile trade, requiring exporters to provide transparent, portable documentation for market access.
