Energy data and intelligence provider TGS has signed an agreement with Ghana’s Petroleum Commission to deliver a new offshore 2D-cubed seismic project in the Keta Basin off the Ghanaian coast.
The project aims to produce a unified subsurface dataset for one of Africa’s significant under-explored regions
The first phase of the Gulf of Guinea 2D-cubed project will incorporate data from 5,500km² of existing 3D seismic data and more than 14,700km of 2D surveys. This information will be used as input to create a 25,300km² 2D-cubed seismic model, spanning both the shelf and deepwater portions of the Keta Basin. TGS’ 2D-cubed process creates a unified, structurally consistent 3D seismic model by combining various older 2D and 3D datasets.
An advanced method of interpolation is used to bridge gaps between survey lines and reduce legacy migration artifacts. This approach is said to produce a seamless 3D dataset to assist explorers and aid in evaluating opportunities throughout the region. TGS expects the final products to be available in the first quarter of 2027.
