Bearish bets on SpaceX surge to $25 billion as traders anticipate the company’s first quarterly earnings since going public.

Short interest in SpaceX has climbed to 32% of its publicly tradable float, equivalent to 206 million shares and $25 billion in notional value. The increase marks a sharp rise from 29% of the float last week and just 5% to 7% a month ago, as traders position for key catalysts.

The surge comes ahead of SpaceX’s first earnings report as a public company, scheduled for Aug. 4. Analysts expect the results to provide the first detailed look at the company’s financials since its IPO. Short sellers have ramped up exposure despite warnings from CEO Elon Musk, who stated that firms maintaining large short positions would face low survival odds.

Musk reiterated his long-term bullish outlook, asserting that SpaceX’s valuation could surpass Earth’s if it achieves its goals. The company’s upcoming earnings and subsequent lock-up expirations are likely to drive further volatility in the stock.
