ARK Genomic Revolution ETF gains 32% year-to-date, yet trails Global X Genomics ETF by 13 percentage points in five-year returns.
The ARK Genomic Revolution ETF (ARKG) has risen 32% year-to-date, driven by its concentrated bets on pre-revenue biotech firms. However, over the past five years, ARKG has underperformed the Global X Genomics & Biotechnology ETF (GNOM) by 13 percentage points.
ARKG holds $1.4 billion in assets, offering tighter spreads and better liquidity compared to GNOM’s $75 million. While ARKG focuses on high-risk, early-stage innovators, GNOM tracks the Solactive Genomics Index, including established names like Moderna and Vertex.
The structural differences have led to divergent performance, with GNOM posting a 17% YTD gain, half the pace of ARKG’s rally but with lower volatility.
