Patrick Witt postpones National Guard training for a second time to advance Senate crypto regulation bill before August recess.
The White House’s top crypto negotiator, Patrick Witt, has deferred his military training for the second time to focus on advancing the CLARITY Act, a bill aiming to establish the first comprehensive US regulatory framework for digital assets. The legislation faces a critical Senate vote before the August 8 recess, with Witt leading negotiations amid heightened industry scrutiny.
Witt, executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, was expected to begin Judge Advocate General training on July 27 but delayed it to continue work on the bill. Democrats recently added consumer protection provisions to the act, addressing concerns raised by industry players like Coinbase. The delay follows an earlier postponement in April, as negotiations extended beyond initial timelines.
Witt’s continued involvement comes as Harry Jung, deputy director of the digital assets council, prepares to depart. Jung, who announced his resignation on Monday, cited progress in shaping US crypto policy over the past two years. His exit leaves Witt as the primary figure overseeing the administration’s crypto agenda ahead of the Senate deadline.
