With 400 openings planned against 75 closures, the net effect would add several hundred stores to its footprint. Dollar Tree ended the first quarter — which closed out on May 2 — with 9,382 stores in the United States and Canada, having added 113 new locations over those three months, the company said. The chain has also been converting stores to a multi-price format, stocking merchandise at $3 to $5 rather than its historic roughly $1 threshold.

The first quarter saw roughly 630 stores shift to or open under the multi-price banner, pushing the chainwide tally of such locations to around 5,900. CEO Mike Creedon pointed to the company’s 40th anniversary as a moment to highlight its direction. “As we celebrate our 40th anniversary in 2026, we are encouraged by the progress we are seeing across the business and remain focused on making thoughtful investments in our stores, assortment and customer experience — building Dollar Tree to last for decades to come,” he said in a statement. The store expansion is part of a broader push into more affluent areas.
