The Edinburgh-based developer secures debt funding for a 500MW battery storage facility at a former coal plant site in Nottinghamshire.
Fidra Energy has finalized £231m in loan facilities to fund its 500MW/1.1GWh West Burton C battery energy storage system in Nottinghamshire. The project, part of a 4GW UK pipeline, will repurpose a former coal power station site and supply electricity to around 300,000 homes during peak demand once operational in 2028.
The financing, led by a consortium of international lenders, supplements existing investments from EIG and the UK’s National Wealth Fund. Total project investment is estimated at £250m, with construction set to begin in late 2026. Sungrow will supply batteries, while H&MV Engineering handles grid connection and commissioning.
Fidra also signed a long-term offtake agreement with Drax Group, reinforcing its role in the UK’s energy transition infrastructure. The project aligns with broader efforts to replace fossil fuel capacity with renewable storage solutions.
