Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett confirmed his direct role in the firm’s $10 billion Alphabet stake, citing long-term AI growth potential.

Warren Buffett disclosed he personally initiated Berkshire Hathaway’s $10 billion investment in Alphabet, marking a rare tech sector move for the value-focused investor. The stake was first taken in Q3 2023 and expanded earlier this year via a private placement to fund Alphabet’s AI infrastructure.

Buffett highlighted Alphabet’s ability to generate high returns on capital over time, aligning with Berkshire’s long-term investment strategy. The company’s dual-use cloud computing model, serving both internal and third-party demand, was noted as a key competitive advantage.

The disclosure follows Buffett’s planned retirement at the end of 2025, with current Berkshire CEO Greg Abel sharing the optimistic view on Alphabet’s growth prospects in AI.
