SpaceX secures contract to equip over 1,000 planes with Starlink internet for five budget carriers under Indigo Partners.

SpaceX’s Starlink internet service will be installed on more than 1,000 aircraft operated by five budget airlines under Indigo Partners. The deal includes Frontier Airlines, Wizz Air, Volaris, JetSmart, and Cebu Pacific, covering fleets across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

Frontier, one of the last U.S. carriers without Wi-Fi, will equip its entire 183-plane Airbus fleet by early 2027. The decision reflects a coordinated move by Indigo Partners, which holds stakes in all five airlines, rather than individual airline strategies.

The shift underscores growing demand for in-flight connectivity, with budget carriers seeking to match rivals that adopted Wi-Fi years earlier. Starlink’s satellite-based service aims to provide faster, more reliable internet than traditional air-to-ground systems.
