UK regulators clear eBay’s acquisition of fashion resale platform Depop, valuing the deal at approximately $1.2bn.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority has approved eBay’s $1.2bn acquisition of Depop, a mobile-first fashion resale marketplace owned by Etsy. The deal, announced in February, faced a formal merger review under the Enterprise Act 2002 after public consultations in April and May.
Depop reported nearly $1bn in annual gross merchandise sales in 2025, with US growth surging 60% year-on-year. The platform serves seven million active buyers, 90% under 34, and over three million sellers. eBay plans to retain Depop’s brand and operations post-acquisition.
The clearance aligns with eBay’s strategy to expand its consumer-to-consumer segment and attract younger shoppers. No immediate market reaction was disclosed.
