Nearly 250 layoffs and nine recent bankruptcies signal deepening financial strain among smaller trucking and logistics providers.

Four logistics and distribution companies are eliminating 245 jobs across New Jersey, North Carolina, Illinois, and California, with Fusion Transport LLC accounting for 79 layoffs at its Piscataway facility. The cuts follow a wave of bankruptcies in the freight sector, including Jackson and Son Hauling LLC and Victory Freight Corp.

Recent filings highlight persistent financial pressure on smaller operators in trucking, warehousing, and supply chain services. Jackson and Son Hauling, a Virginia-based carrier, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on July 13, operating just two trucks at the time. The sector’s struggles reflect broader challenges in freight demand and cost pressures.

No immediate market reaction was reported, but the closures and layoffs underscore vulnerabilities in the logistics industry amid shifting economic conditions.
