Deal adds 5GW of solar and wind capacity to Aditya Birla Renewables’ portfolio, expanding its total to 9.3GWp in India.
Aditya Birla Renewables, a subsidiary of Grasim Industries, agreed to acquire Shell’s Sprng Energy for $1.8bn, including debt. The transaction covers full ownership of Solenergi Power and Sprng Energy, boosting ABRen’s renewables capacity by approximately 5GWp.
Sprng Energy currently operates 3.3GWp of solar and wind assets, with an additional 1.7GWp under construction. The deal, financed through debt and equity, will position ABRen as a major player in India’s renewables sector, targeting completion by the end of 2026.
The acquisition aligns with ABRen’s strategy to scale its renewable energy platform, combining Sprng Energy’s utility-scale assets with its commercial and industrial capabilities. Regulatory approvals remain a prerequisite for closing the transaction.
