European biotech startups have secured €800 million in venture capital funding this year, exceeding three-quarters of 2025’s total. At the current pace, deal value is set to surpass the 2018 record of €1.2 billion, though median deal sizes remain below last year’s peak of €3.5 million.

The number of VC rounds is expected to rise modestly from 2025, contrasting with declines in other sectors. Europe’s share of global biotech funding has climbed to 20.5%, the highest since 2018, yet US fundraising remains three times larger.

Recent large rounds include Nuclidium’s $130 million Series B and RQ Bio’s $115 million Series A. Fundraising activity has been bolstered by major fund closes, such as Jeito Capital’s $1.2 billion raise and Kurma Partners’ €215 million biotech fund.
