UK retail sales rose 1.9% year on year in June
The UK consumer spending trend is showing signs of deceleration, despite a 1.9% year-on-year increase in retail sales in June.
The growth in sales was supported by spending on heat and football, with non-food sales growing 1.2% and essential spending up 2.2%.
Travel spending also stabilised after falls in April and May, which were tied to Iran war concerns.
The underlying trend, however, suggests a softer economy, with food price risks from the conflict posing a potential squeeze on households.
