The investment aims to boost output for AI and high-performance computing amid rising global demand for advanced semiconductors.
Intel has launched a $5.7 billion capital investment to expand its manufacturing hub in Leixlip, Ireland. The funds will upgrade existing facilities and install cutting-edge equipment to produce Intel Xeon 6 processors and next-generation chips using the Intel 3 process.
The company has already invested €30 billion in Ireland since 1989, with over half spent between 2019 and 2023 to double capacity. This latest expenditure targets increased output for AI and high-performance computing, leveraging existing cleanroom space and research capabilities.
Intel employs 4,900 people in Ireland and views the expansion as critical to maintaining the country’s position in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The project began earlier this year and aligns with global demand trends for high-end chips.
