Superior Star LLC seeks bankruptcy protection after a financing dispute with Starcorp LLC over a $7.04 million seller note.

Superior Star LLC, a Hardee’s franchisee, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Kentucky on July 9. The company listed assets and liabilities between $10 million and $50 million, citing a lender dispute as the primary reason for the filing.

The Phoenix-based franchisee operates 59 Hardee’s locations across 10 Midwestern states, down from 93 after closing about 12 locations in 2025. The largest creditor, Starcorp LLC, is owed $7.04 million in a disputed seller note, with additional creditors including Lionsgate Investment and McLane Company Inc.

The bankruptcy filing invokes an automatic stay of legal actions, halting ongoing disputes. Superior Star purchased the 93 locations from Starcorp in 2023, and the two parties remain entangled in the financing conflict.
