Rapidus plans to produce 2 nm semiconductors at $21,000 per wafer by 2027, undercutting TSMC’s $30,000 pricing.
A Japanese semiconductor manufacturer, Rapidus, aims to challenge TSMC by mass-producing 2 nm chips at a 30% lower price. The company plans to price its wafers at $21,000, compared to TSMC’s $30,000, but production won’t begin until 2027.
TSMC currently dominates the global foundry market with a 73% share, while Samsung holds just 7%. TSMC began 2 nm chip production this year, supplying major clients like Nvidia and AMD. Rapidus is reportedly in talks with over 60 companies for potential partnerships.
Despite the price advantage, analysts question Rapidus’s ability to match TSMC’s scale and reliability. TSMC’s long-standing relationships with tech giants and its open innovation platform remain key competitive strengths.
