Tower Semiconductor reports shipping over five million advanced photonic chips to support AI-driven data center connectivity needs.

Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ:TSEM) has shipped more than five million coherent photonic integrated circuits (PICs) to Marvell Technology’s global customers. These chips power coherent optical transceivers, critical for high-speed data transmission in fiber optic networks.

The surge in AI computing has intensified demand for faster and more efficient data center connectivity. Coherent PICs, which manage light phase and polarization, are more complex to manufacture than standard chips but are essential for meeting bandwidth requirements.

Tower and Marvell have collaborated on advancing the technology, integrating silicon with specialized materials and employing 3D stacking and V-Groove packaging. The milestone underscores the partnership’s progress in addressing AI infrastructure needs.
