The Czech koruna has slipped to near year-low levels on a nominal effective exchange rate basis, despite markets pricing in higher policy rates for the Czech National Bank. Analysts attribute the weakness to the bank’s alignment with the European Central Bank’s tightening path, which may exacerbate growth headwinds for the export-dependent economy.

Policy expectations for the CNB surged in May, yet the koruna failed to strengthen, reflecting concerns over structural growth challenges. The Czech economy’s deep integration with Eurozone supply chains means ECB policy missteps could disproportionately weigh on domestic performance, particularly if export demand weakens.

A shift toward credible domestic stimulus could support the koruna in a market increasingly focused on growth. While Czechia has avoided fiscal excesses seen elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe, analysts suggest targeted measures may be needed to offset ECB-driven headwinds.
