Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) signed a 15-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales agreement with Japan’s Inpex, supplying 1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from the Ruwais LNG project. The deal brings long-term commitments to over 90% of the project’s 9.6mtpa capacity, with Japanese buyers accounting for nearly a quarter of the volume.

Ruwais LNG, set to begin operations in 2028, will be the first LNG export plant in the Middle East and Africa powered by clean energy. ADNOC highlighted the use of AI and advanced technologies to manage emissions and safety. The project strengthens energy ties between the UAE and Japan, following ADNOC’s launch of a global LNG trading platform.

The agreement marks a key step in commercializing Ruwais LNG, aligning with ADNOC’s strategy to expand its LNG portfolio and enhance market access for customers.
