Vistra (VST) stock has declined 6% year-to-date and nearly 28% from its September 2025 peak of $217.02, underperforming broader energy sector rallies. The company, a top U.S. power generator and retailer, faces headwinds from proposed electricity capacity price caps by PJM Interconnection and the planned shutdown of a major facility.

At its peak, Vistra benefited from AI-driven demand and was reclassified as an AI infrastructure play. The stock surged 556% over two years before reversing course. Its retail subsidiaries serve five million customers, but regulatory and operational challenges have overshadowed growth.

Shares now trade near $150, reflecting investor concerns over pricing constraints and asset retirements in a volatile energy market.
