The US Treasury sanctioned 134 cryptocurrency addresses tied to ISIS-K, freezing over $1.4 million in funds. The wallets, primarily on the Tron network, received and sent more than $880,000 since 2023, according to blockchain analysis.
ISIS-K used its media wing to solicit donations via Tron, Monero, and Bitcoin, leveraging stablecoin issuers like Tether to enforce sanctions. The move follows growing scrutiny of crypto’s role in illicit financing, with Tether freezing all 131 Tron addresses identified.
Separately, the Treasury also sanctioned a Brazil-linked network laundering over $30 million for the criminal gang PCC, underscoring broader efforts to curb crypto-enabled money laundering.
