Joint venture aims to produce 4mtpa alumina and 2mtpa aluminium, targeting India’s rising domestic demand by 2030.

Adani Group and Abu Dhabi’s International Holding Company will invest $11.5bn in an integrated aluminium complex in Odisha, India. The project, structured as a 50-50 joint venture, marks the largest foreign investment in India’s metals sector to date.

The facility will include a refinery, smelter, power plant, and manufacturing park, with a capacity of 4 million tonnes of alumina and 2 million tonnes of aluminium annually. India’s aluminium demand is projected to reach 8.5 million tonnes by fiscal 2030, driven by infrastructure and renewable energy growth.

Odisha, which holds 54% of India’s aluminium output, will host the project, expected to generate 53,500 jobs. The venture aligns with India’s push to reduce reliance on imported aluminium products.
