Japanese firm Metaplanet spent $222 million on Bitcoin in Q2, its smallest quarterly buy in a year, as holdings reach 43,000 BTC.
Metaplanet acquired 2,823 Bitcoin in the second quarter for approximately $222 million, raising its total holdings to 43,000 BTC. The purchase, averaging $78,608 per Bitcoin, marks the company’s smallest quarterly addition in a year, down from 17,473 BTC in Q3 2025.
The firm’s targets of 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and 210,000 by 2027 appear increasingly distant as its buying pace cools. Metaplanet funded the quarter’s purchases primarily through debt and Bitcoin options income, avoiding new share issuance.
Metaplanet’s holdings are now valued at ¥409 billion ($2.5 billion), reflecting an unrealized loss of roughly $1.5 billion. Bitcoin declined over 20% in Q2, closing near $58,800 on June 30.
