The Canadian dollar shows little reaction to the national team’s historic World Cup advance, with USDCAD trading near 1.4209.
USDCAD remains near session highs at 1.4209, reflecting weak Canadian dollar momentum despite Canada’s first-ever Round of 16 World Cup appearance. The pair’s low for the day reached only 1.4176, signaling limited seller control.
Buyers have dominated since May 1, driving the pair from 1.35492 to a double-top high of 1.4247 last week. Sellers briefly pushed the pair below its 100-hour moving average but failed to sustain momentum below the rising 200-hour moving average at 1.4169.
A decisive break below the 200-hour moving average is needed to shift control to sellers. Until then, buyers retain the upper hand, though upside may be limited in the near term.
