Amazon and Alphabet issued $60 billion in bonds across multiple currencies to fund AI-driven infrastructure spending.
Technology firms are diversifying bond issuance beyond the U.S. dollar to meet rising capital demands for AI infrastructure. Amazon and Alphabet sold $60 billion in debt over the past year, leveraging euros, yen, and other currencies to avoid market saturation.
Amazon’s €14.5 billion euro-denominated deal in March set a record for corporate bonds in the region. Alphabet broke borrowing records in yen, Canadian dollars, and Swiss francs, while issuing a rare 100-year bond. Hyperscalers’ capital expenditures are projected to reach $725 billion this year.
The shift reflects banks’ efforts to accommodate unprecedented funding needs amid soaring AI-related investments.
