The Ethereum Foundation is reducing its workforce by approximately 20%, cutting 54 positions in a restructuring effort. The move follows an updated mandate and treasury strategy aimed at streamlining operations and aligning resources with long-term development goals for Ethereum.

Recent months have seen significant leadership turnover, including the departures of co-executive directors Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak, as well as board member Bastian Aue. The organization stated the layoffs will leave it “leaner and more focused” on critical tasks supporting Ethereum’s evolution.

The restructuring occurs as Ethereum’s ecosystem faces fragmentation, with initiatives like ETHLabs gaining backing from major treasury companies and co-founder Joseph Lubin. The Foundation’s shift prioritizes institutional engagement amid broader industry changes.
