Bank of England external policy member Alan Taylor urged holding interest rates steady, calling an extended pause the appropriate policy response. Markets currently price in a 25 basis point hike to 4.00% by year-end, but Taylor views the current rate as 75 bps above his neutral level.

Taylor noted the UK economy entered the shock in a “very weak” state, reinforcing his stance. Despite his dovish remarks, the pound showed limited reaction, reversing yesterday’s gains to trade down 36 pips at 1.3211.

The comments contrast with market expectations but align with concerns over economic fragility. No immediate shift in rate hike bets was observed following the statement.
