Binance’s MiCA license bid in Greece faces rejection after ECB opposition, leaving France as its final EU option.

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde opposed Binance’s entry into the EU market during discussions with Greek officials, according to sources. The intervention may have influenced Greece’s decision to reject Binance’s MiCA license application, currently under review by the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC).

Binance previously stated its Greek application met MiCA requirements and awaits ESMA-level review. With Greece poised to deny approval, France remains Binance’s last potential EU market access point under the new regulatory framework.

The development underscores heightened regulatory scrutiny of major crypto exchanges in the EU, following MiCA’s implementation to standardize digital asset oversight across member states.
