Ricardo Salinas Pliego allocates 70% of his $5 billion investment portfolio to bitcoin, citing its outperformance over real estate.
Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego has allocated approximately 70% of his investment portfolio, valued at around $5 billion, to bitcoin. He argues that fiat currencies lose purchasing power over time and views bitcoin as a superior long-term asset compared to real estate.
Salinas, whose family has a history in gold, likens bitcoin to a scarce asset and believes it could eventually reach $1 million. His allocation defies conventional portfolio management advice, which typically limits exposure to volatile assets. He also persuaded his wife to mortgage her house to buy bitcoin.
The billionaire’s stance highlights growing institutional interest in bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and currency devaluation. His company, Grupo Elektra, operates across retail and banking sectors in Mexico.
