The investment marks one of Bulgaria’s largest integrated renewable energy schemes, targeting 415MWp solar capacity and 600MWh storage.
OMV Petrom has finalized a €300m investment for the Gabare solar and battery storage project in Bulgaria. The project includes a 415MWp photovoltaic plant and a 600MWh battery storage system, with €100m allocated to storage alone.
The Gabare project, located in Byala Slatina, is one of Bulgaria’s largest integrated renewable energy initiatives. Permits are secured, and construction is set to begin pending the main contract, with first electricity production expected in 2028. OMV Petrom will purchase 50% of the output via a power purchase agreement.
Financing will come from internal and external sources, with development managed by Dunav Solar Plant, a joint venture between OMV Petrom and Enery. The project aims to enhance grid flexibility and stability in the region.
