The purchase aims to bolster SpaceX’s enterprise AI capabilities and strengthen xAI’s position in the AI coding market.
SpaceX will acquire Anysphere, the developer of the AI coding agent Cursor, for $60 billion. The deal is part of SpaceX’s push to expand its presence in the enterprise AI sector, following its recent $2 trillion Nasdaq debut.
Anysphere joins competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic in automating coding tasks, a segment where AI firms have gained early commercial traction. The merger, expected to close in Q3 2026, will provide xAI, SpaceX’s AI unit, with greater resources to compete in the AI coding space.
The acquisition also grants Cursor access to additional computing power for AI model development, addressing a key bottleneck for growth in the sector.
