Japan’s finance minister declined to comment on the Bank of Japan’s recent decision until after deputy governor Shinichi Uchida’s press conference later today. The central bank’s governor, Kazuo Ueda, was absent due to hospitalization, leaving Uchida to address markets.

USD/JPY remains above 160.00, a level that previously triggered intervention by Japanese authorities in late April. That intervention occurred two days after the BOJ’s last policy meeting, raising speculation about potential official action this time.

Markets are closely watching for any signals on whether the finance ministry will respond to the yen’s depreciation, though no immediate comments are expected before Uchida’s briefing.
