The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has hired a former SEC crypto task force adviser with expertise in blockchain forensics and AI. CFTC Chair Selig cited the appointee’s background in data science and programming interfaces as key to addressing digital asset enforcement challenges.

The move comes as Congress debates the CLARITY Act, which aims to clarify the CFTC’s and SEC’s roles in crypto regulation. The CFTC currently operates with only one commissioner, limiting its capacity to oversee digital assets and prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket.

Last week, the CFTC proposed a rule to differentiate sports event contracts from gambling, with a 45-day public comment period. The agency has previously asserted jurisdiction over prediction markets, sparking legal disputes with state regulators.
