The number of active oil rigs in the US climbed by 2 to 433 in the latest reporting period, marking the second consecutive weekly increase. Total rigs, including oil, gas, and miscellaneous, reached 563, up 1 from a year ago.

Oil rigs remain 6 below last year’s level, while gas rigs fell by 3 to 121 but are still 8 higher than the same period in 2023. The miscellaneous rig count held steady at 8.

The data reflects a modest uptick in drilling activity amid shifting energy market dynamics.
