Libre Duo systems will allow real-time monitoring of glucose and ketones without blood or urine tests, launching in Europe later this year.
Abbott Laboratories secured CE Mark approval for Libre Duo and Libre Duo 10 Day, the first continuous glucose-ketone sensing technology for diabetes management. The devices measure glucose and ketone levels every minute, providing real-time data to prevent diabetic ketoacidosis emergencies.
The technology eliminates the need for traditional blood or urine tests, a first for diabetes monitoring. Abbott plans to roll out the systems in select European markets in late 2024, expanding its diabetes care portfolio.
Management highlighted the innovation as a significant advancement for daily diabetes management, addressing a critical need for early detection of rising ketones. The approval follows updated colorectal cancer screening guidelines also announced by Abbott this week.
