Them Andelsmejeri, Denmark’s dairy cooperative, shifts ownership to private equity after Arla’s blocked takeover over competition concerns.

Danish dairy cooperative Them Andelsmejeri is being sold to local private-equity firm Erhvervsinvest, transferring operations to a new entity, Them Mejeri. The deal, pending regulatory approval, follows Arla’s abandoned takeover in April due to antitrust risks in Denmark’s cheese market.

Them Andelsmejeri produces over 5,500 tonnes of organic and conventional yellow cheeses annually, including Danbo, supplying retail and foodservice sectors. All 12 cooperative members will continue supplying raw milk, while the firm’s 90 employees remain unaffected.

CEO Søren Hansen stated the acquisition will provide growth opportunities, including expanded export markets. Financial terms were not disclosed.
