J.B. Hunt reported Q1 revenue of $3.06 billion and EPS of $1.49, signaling a potential turn in the freight cycle.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. (JBHT) shares traded at $276.43 on May 29, reflecting investor optimism after a robust first quarter. The company posted a 5% revenue increase to $3.06 billion, while operating income rose 16% to $207 million and diluted EPS climbed 27% to $1.49. Record intermodal volumes underscored its market share gains despite pricing pressures.

The results surpassed expectations, with management describing freight conditions as “meaningfully different” from earlier fragility. Intermodal, the largest earnings driver, saw 21% operating income growth, though revenue per load remained under pressure. Analysts noted the potential for further earnings upside once pricing stabilizes.

The report reinforced a bullish thesis, suggesting the freight cycle may be turning in favor of well-positioned operators. JBHT’s ability to capture volume growth ahead of a full pricing recovery highlights its competitive positioning.
