Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETF surged as lithium prices stabilized after years of oversupply, tripling the S&P 500’s return.
The Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETF (LIT) rose 34% in 2026, climbing from $64.86 to $83.28, outpacing the S&P 500’s 11% gain. The rally followed a three-year downturn as lithium carbonate prices hit cash-cost floors before stabilizing.
LIT’s five-year holders only recently broke even, while the S&P 500 returned 79% over the same period. Albemarle (ALB) led gains, surging 182% from a distressed base. Key drivers include lithium spot prices, U.S. policy on lithium investments, and EV demand in China and Europe.
The fund briefly touched $88 in early May before retreating, reflecting volatility in the sector despite strong year-to-date performance.
