Federal data shows solar accounted for the largest share of new US energy capacity additions despite policy shifts away from renewables.
Solar energy remained the top source of new US power capacity additions for the 28th consecutive month through December, according to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission data. The trend persisted despite the Trump administration’s rollback of Biden-era clean energy incentives since January 2023.
Renewables collectively dominated new installations, outpacing fossil fuels and nuclear. Prior to this streak, solar had intermittently led capacity growth but never for such an extended period. The data underscores sustained investor and developer interest in solar projects.
No immediate market reaction was reported, though the figures highlight resilience in renewable energy adoption amid shifting federal policies.
