The social media giant eyes raising tens of billions in equity to fund its $125–145 billion 2026 AI infrastructure push.
Meta is weighing a stock offering of tens of billions of dollars to accelerate its artificial intelligence investments, following Google’s $85 billion equity sale this week. The move targets funding for a 2026 capital expenditure plan projected at $125–145 billion, driven by AI infrastructure buildout.
Shares fell to a session low of $581.58 before recovering slightly to $586.56, down $41 or 6.56% on the day. Year-to-date, Meta is down 11.04% after a 12.74% gain in 2025, underperforming the NASDAQ’s 20% rise. The company holds $81.18 billion in cash and marketable securities as of Q1 2026, with $32.2 billion in operating cash flow and $12.4 billion in free cash flow generated last quarter.
Management’s guidance reflects heavy spending despite strong cash generation, with $1.35 billion in dividends paid in Q1. The offering would supplement existing liquidity as Meta scales AI initiatives across its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
