U.S. trucking and logistics companies filed for bankruptcy protection this week, triggering layoffs and facility closures across multiple states. The wave of filings includes both Chapter 11 reorganizations and Chapter 7 liquidations, affecting carriers, brokers, and service providers in Illinois, Tennessee, Maryland, North Carolina, and Michigan.

Recent filings include SP Trans Inc., a long-haul carrier reporting assets and liabilities between $500,000 and $1 million, and Sparhawk Trucking, which employs 146 drivers and operates 178 trucks. Federal records show SP Trans had 13 drivers and remained active as of May. Industry sources cite ongoing financial strain despite broader freight market recovery.

Sparhawk Trucking warned employees of potential closures or layoffs as it seeks a buyer through bankruptcy. No final decisions have been announced, but company officials urged workers not to assume operations will continue.
