Six states filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its decision to cancel offshore wind leases and pay TotalEnergies nearly $1 billion to exit the projects. The leases, located off New York and North Carolina, were terminated under a March agreement, drawing legal action from attorneys general in New York, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

The canceled projects were part of broader efforts to expand offshore wind energy along the U.S. East Coast. States argue the federal government overstepped its authority by voiding the leases without consultation, potentially delaying renewable energy development and increasing costs for ratepayers.

No immediate market reaction was reported, but the legal challenge could disrupt future offshore wind investments and regulatory certainty for energy companies.
