Target Corp. has launched a $367 million food distribution center in Thornton, Colorado, aimed at improving supply chain efficiency and product freshness for 129 stores in 11 states. The facility is the largest of nine Target food distribution centers and the first with consolidation capabilities, allowing faster replenishment by up to two days.

The company has expanded its fresh supply chain network over the past three years, adding four food distribution centers. During the first quarter, Target introduced 3,000 new food items, with sales from those products rising over 50% compared to the prior assortment. The new center will streamline transportation costs and unload processes by consolidating shipments from multiple vendors.

The 529,000-square-foot temperature-controlled facility will employ more than 1,000 workers and enhance distribution efficiency across Target’s network. Management previously highlighted the project during last month’s earnings call but offered limited details at the time.
