Breakwave Tanker Shipping ETF’s freight futures exposure drove a 732% gain, tripling Micron’s 214% rally in the same period.
The Breakwave Tanker Shipping ETF (BWET) rose 732% year-to-date, climbing from $19.26 on December 31, 2025, to $160.22 on May 26, 2026. A $10,000 investment grew to approximately $83,000 over the same period.
In contrast, Micron Technology (MU) gained 214%, rising from $285.28 to $895.88, as its $1 trillion market cap and $13.64 billion revenue quarter fueled investor interest. BWET’s rally stems from crude oil tanker freight futures, not equities, with exposure to near-dated VLCC charter rates.
The $30 million ETF’s performance reflects a sharp rise in spot freight rates, diverging from traditional equity-driven rallies. Its gains highlight niche market dynamics in commodities trading.
