Bitcoin and Ethereum drop over 2% and 3% respectively amid geopolitical uncertainty ahead of a potential 60-day ceasefire extension.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) opened at $73,568.4 on Monday, down 0.3% from Sunday, before falling further to $71,400.64 as of 9:56 a.m. ET. Ethereum (ETH-USD) followed a similar trend, opening at $2,004.03, down 0.8%, and declining to $1,960.76 in early trading.
The declines come as investors monitor U.S.-Iran negotiations, with a 60-day ceasefire extension pending President Trump’s signature. Sticking points remain, casting doubt on long-term stability. Bitcoin is down 4.4% week-over-week, 3.6% month-over-month, and 29.7% year-over-year, while Ethereum’s recent performance mirrors the broader risk-off sentiment.
The all-time high for Bitcoin remains $126,198.07, recorded in October 2025, while its lowest recorded value was $0.04865 in July 2010.
