SAIC Motor, China’s state-owned automaker, announced cumulative vehicle production and sales exceeded 100 million units. The milestone comes as the company reclaimed its position as China’s top vehicle manufacturer this year after losing the title to BYD Auto in 2025.

Group sales rose 1.5% to 1.3 million units in the first four months of 2026, with overseas sales surging 50% to 459,200 units. The company operates joint ventures with Volkswagen and General Motors, alongside in-house brands like MG and IM Motors. Its 100 millionth vehicle was the LS9 Hyper, a premium battery electric model under the IM Motors brand.

SAIC’s growth reflects broader trends in China’s automotive export expansion, particularly in electric vehicles. The company’s production history dates back to the 1950s, evolving from a spare parts manufacturer to a global player.
