XRP Ledger’s architecture prevents flash loan attacks

XRP Ledger’s transactions are atomic and cannot include composable intra-transaction calls, making flash loan attacks structurally impossible.

The network’s design has spared it from exploits that have cost Ethereum DeFi hundreds of millions. Recent attacks on Thorchain, Drift, and KelpDAO have relied on flash loans, resulting in significant losses.

Cross-chain bridges have lost over $2.8 billion to attacks since 2021, with a significant share of these exploits using variants of flash loans. Thorchain lost roughly $10.8 million, while Drift Protocol and KelpDAO accounted for over $600 million in losses through April alone.
