Preliminary German inflation figures for May are expected to hold steady at 2.9%, with energy prices keeping pressure on headline rates.
German states will release May consumer price index (CPI) data today, with national preliminary figures due at 1200 GMT. Headline annual inflation is forecast to remain at 2.9%, unchanged from April, though a rise to 3% would mark the highest level since December 2023.
Energy prices drove April’s inflation uptick, and while May’s monthly increase is expected to be modest at 0.1%, persistent energy costs risk spilling over into core inflation. Core prices eased to 2.3% in April but could rebound later in the year if price pressures persist.
Regional releases from North Rhine Westphalia, Hesse, Bavaria, Baden Württemberg, and Saxony are scheduled for 0800 GMT, though timing may vary slightly.
